ABOUT THE THEATRE
The Janáček Theatre is the youngest of the three buildings of the National Theatre Brno. It was designed by Otakar Oplatek and Jan Víšek and opened on 2 October 1965. The size makes it one of the largest theatres in Europe and from the start it was planned for big opera and ballet performances. It is one of the purest examples of the so-called Brussels style typical for Czechoslovakia at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. In 2016-2017, after more than fifty years, the building underwent a general reconstruction which returned the original lustre and carries it into the 21st century.
